Phoenix Forge Construction Update 

We are excited to share that Phoenix Forge is set to open this fall in downtown Phoenix. This 22,500 square foot building will be home to makers of all kinds throughout the valley. Take a look at the recent construction progress in the photos below.

In the photo above workers are installing new lights in the wood shop.

Above is the beginning phase of a fresh coat of paint being done in the collaboration area, which will be a space for makers to gather to share ideas and collaborate.

Above you will see the progress of the Craft area. The ceiling has been painted and new lights and sound buffering have been installed. 

Meet Our New Team Members

With a new makerspace comes a new team! We are happy to welcome our new Program Manager, Ben Bednarz, Wood Shop Manager, Thad Trubakoff, and Metal Shop Manager, Julian Silva who both come with years of knowledge and expertise.

Ben Bednarz

Program Manager

Ben has a passion for helping others bring their dreams to reality. As a lifelong student of the craft of building and making, he has worked with everything from traditional blacksmithing to precision machining with a specialty in 3D modeling and digital fabrication. He is a Gateway Community College alumni and excited to serve the MCCCD student body and Phoenix Forge members alike.

Thad Trubakoff

Wood Shop Manager

Thad grew up in the high mountain pine trees of Flagstaff, Arizona.  He moved down to Tempe to attend ASU where he received a BA in Design Management and an MFA in Wood.  He has varied experience in art, design and woodworking and spent the last five years building a design and fabrication business that specialized in creating heirloom-quality furniture.

Julian Silva

Metal Shop Manager

Julian is an artist+designer specializing in metal, wood, and digital fabrication. Julian has a background working in makerspaces and fabrication studios in private, public, and higher education. Julian is versed in teaching design and fabrication fundamentals and is passionate about helping others reach their creative vision through making.
