Wood Shop Instructional Specialist (Part Time)

GateWay Community College is seeking a part-time woodshop Instructional Specialist for its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)-oriented Makerspace (“Phoenix Forge”). This 22,500-square-foot facility is be open to the public as well as college students, faculty, and staff of the Maricopa County Community College District.

The instructional specialist is responsible for a variety of instructional support and technical support tasks in the makerspace shops. College students, faculty, and staff, as well as the public, need beginner to advanced-level instructional support. (including safety training) in the wood shop. he specialist will assist and may teach shop orientation/safety classes or specialty classes such as woodworking techniques, wood turning, or CNC Router operation as needed, depending on their skills. This position also supports public members with personal projects as well as helping students or faculty who are working on projects for their classes, so this position needs to be flexible, patient, and creative to support a wide variety of requests for assistance.

Metal Shop Instructional Specialist (Part Time)

GateWay Community College is seeking a Part-Time Metal Shop Instructional Specialist for its Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM)-oriented Makerspace (“Phoenix Forge”). This 22,500-square-foot facility is open to the public as well as college students, faculty, and staff of the Maricopa County Community College District. Under general supervision by the Program Manager and Senior Shop Instructors, the Part-Time Metal Shop Instructional Specialist is responsible for a variety of instructional support and technical support tasks in the makerspace shops.

College students, faculty, and staff, as well as the public, need beginner to advanced level instructional support (including safety training) in the metal shop. The makerspace does not teach semester-length courses in any of these subjects, but does teach short classes/workshops in basic principles, projects, and how to use equipment and related tools. The Specialist will assist and may teach shop orientation/safety classes, or specialty classes such as metal fabrication techniques, welding, or Manual and CNC machining as needed, depending on their skills. This position also supports public members with personal projects as well as helping students or faculty who are working on projects for their classes, so this position needs to be flexible, patient, and creative to support a wide variety of requests for assistance.
