Member Spotlight: Tonia Calderon

In January, Phoenix Forge hosted Los Angeles–based artist Tonia Calderon to develop the centerpiece of her latest exhibition, Endless, at the ASU Art Museum.

Calderon is a visual artist and painter known for her explorations of abstraction using layered surfaces, dense textures, and a combination of natural and synthetic materials. For Endless, Calderon brought her personal library into the museum to invite visitors into her studio and process.

To hold the hundreds of books, Calderon came to Phoenix Forge to envision, design, and create five steel bookcases. Working with members and staff, the metal shop was transformed into a production line to bring the exhibition to life.
